Six signs you actually need a redesign
Most Kenyan businesses we audit don't need a fresh site every year — they need to know when the current one has stopped pulling its weight. The honest test has six parts: bounce rate above 70 percent on mobile; PageSpeed Insights mobile score below 50; no leads from organic search in the last 90 days; broken layouts on phones smaller than 400px; a design that still looks like 2019; and any place on the site where a customer cannot reach you in under three taps.
If three or more of those are true, a redesign is the cheapest growth investment you can make this quarter — not a luxury.
What a website redesign costs in Nairobi in 2026
Honest 2026 ranges from a Nairobi web design studio: a brochure refresh on the same content runs KES 80,000–180,000. A full corporate redesign with new copy, photography direction, SEO and a CMS runs KES 180,000–450,000. E-commerce redesigns with M-Pesa, eTIMS and inventory sit between KES 350,000 and KES 900,000. Bespoke web applications — booking portals, dashboards, tenant systems — start at KES 600,000.
Anything quoted under KES 60,000 for a serious business website almost always means a recycled template, no SEO foundation, and no support after launch. Cheap is expensive twice.
The five things to fix first
1. Mobile performance. Over 70 percent of Kenyan traffic is mobile and most of it is on 4G. Compress images, lazy-load below the fold, and target a Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds.
2. The hero section. One sentence that says what you do, who it's for, and where (Kenya / Nairobi). One dominant CTA. Trust line below.
3. Local SEO. Add LocalBusiness schema, your physical address, opening hours, and a Google Business Profile link. This is what makes you show up in Maps results.
4. Conversion paths. Phone, WhatsApp and quote form visible on every page within one tap.
5. Content depth. A 200-word service page will not rank. Aim for 800+ words with a real FAQ section per service.
How to brief a Nairobi web design agency
A good brief saves you 30 percent of the budget. Include: your top three business goals for the next 12 months; the three competitors you most want to beat; the five pages on your current site that get the most traffic; the actions you want visitors to take; and any non-negotiables (M-Pesa, eTIMS, multi-language, integrations).
Ask the agency to send back a written scope, a fixed timeline, and a milestone-based payment plan before you pay anything. If they refuse, walk away.
Avoid these four redesign mistakes
1. Killing your URLs. Every old URL needs a 301 redirect to its new equivalent or you will lose your Google rankings overnight.
2. Launching without analytics. Google Analytics 4 and Search Console must be live on day one — otherwise you cannot prove the redesign worked.
3. Forgetting page speed. A beautiful site that loads in six seconds converts worse than an ugly one that loads in two.
4. Designing in a vacuum. Show the new design to five real customers before you launch. Their reactions will save you months of guessing.
